Michael qualified from University College Hospital London, Dental Hospital in 1985, and spent seven years working as an associate before buying the practice in Petworth in 1992. He began studying orthodontics in 1991 and, since then, he has continued to develop this aspect of his practice. Michael believes orthodontic treatment should be carried out without extractions, wherever possible, to maintain the correct shape and size of the jaw, and to improve the final facial profile. He also works closely with osteopaths and chiropractors in this regard.
In 1997, Michael gained his Diploma in General Dental Practice from the Royal College of Surgeons in London, being one of the first in the country to attain this qualification. In 2006, he moved the practice from Market Square to its current modern premises, located on the corner of Middle Street.
He has a special interest in orthodontics and restorative dentistry, and continues to broaden and update his knowledge by committing to further postgraduate training.
He is married to our Practice Manager, Jayne Donovan, and they have two children. When not hard at work, Michael enjoys playing and watching rugby, golf, cycling and skiing.

An exciting change for me after 20yrs of life on the road in sales and customer service. I joined the practice in February and have settled in nicely. Most people describe me as “full of energy & upbeat”, I channel some of this into the outdoor sports I love. I cycle and race both road and mountain bikes, slightly less occasionally these days moto cross and enduro riding too! When I am not on two wheels it’s horses or obstacle races, Muscle Acher or Tough Mudder!
These activities keep me calm and focused while at work, so I am very much looking forward to meeting more of the lovely patients here at Donovan’s Dental Practice.
